Please - call her Shirley. She was born and grew up in a small town in northern Wisconsin. A middle child of five siblings with humble beginnings and a drive to succeed that is easily as big as Mount Everest or Kilimanjaro. Abandoned at age eleven, sort of - her father passed away unexpectedly and it felt like being abandoned. She grew up quickly and learned a resiliency she never knew she had. Her mother became the powerhouse. She kept the family together and helped them all find joy and laughter again.
Among other things, her small town roots prepared her for adult life by teaching her the importance of loyalty, the ability to find joy in the little things in life, individual confidence and the importance of family and lasting relationships. One of her favorite quotes is by Theodore Roosevelt, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
Since Indiana and Wisconsin share those same great Midwestern values, you’ll appreciate her humility, gratitude; how she embraces hard work and opportunity, never waivers in the face of adversity and never stops believing in the promise of America.
Shirley’s first love in life was in Fine Arts. Her 2D and 3D design compositions won state fame and she worked in the Commercial Art arena for local businesses for a number of years. Then, on her quest for more opportunity she relocated to Milwaukee Wisconsin where she completed her undergraduate (with Honors) and graduate degrees. While earning her four year undergraduate degree she held a management position with the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce. She served as an advocate for metropolitan businesses to encourage business development, capital investment and job creation.
She proudly earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with an emphasis on Marketing and Technology from Marquette University. Marquette’s academic and spiritual foundation set the framework for Shirley’s professional commitment to ethics, and gave her the global perspective and leadership skills necessary to compete in today’s challenging environment. While earning her MBA degree, Shirley went to work for Electronic Data Systems (EDS), a Fortune 500 information technology services company. It was ranked one of the largest service companies employing 139,000 people in 64 countries. After her graduation she was promoted and EDS relocated her to Indiana. She was in charge of Sales and Marketing, Business Development and Public Relations at the then, Delco Electronics Corporation account in Kokomo Indiana. Delco Electronics Corporation was the automotive electronics design and manufacturing subsidiary of General Motors Corporation (GM). Among her major accomplishments was the negotiation of a multi-million dollar five year fixed price contract for information technology products and services to Delco Electronics Corporation. After many successful years at the Delco Electronics Corporation account, EDS offered Shirley another marketing opportunity, this time, in Washington DC.
However, the Midwest is where her roots are and Indiana is where her heart is. Consequently, Shirley made a decision to leave the corporate world. And besides, this is where she met the love of her life and married him. Between the two of them, her husband has five adult children and she has one adult child. All but two, live out of state and have children of their own.
